Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
1. Introduction
Amazighly ("we", "our", or "us") operates an online dictionary for the Amazigh language. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data. By using Amazighly, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide and improve the service:
- Account information : when you register, we store your email address, chosen username, and authentication provider (email/password or Google Sign-In).
- Contributions : translations, votes, and edits you submit are stored and publicly visible as part of the dictionary.
- Usage data : with your prior consent, we use analytics tools to understand how the dictionary is used (see the Cookies section). Google Analytics 4 provides aggregate usage and page-view metrics, and Microsoft Clarity may capture session recordings and heatmaps of on-page interactions such as clicks, scrolling, and mouse movement. We also log search queries that return no results so we can improve search coverage.
- Technical data : standard server logs including IP address, browser type, and referring URL, retained for security and debugging purposes.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account.
- To display your public profile and contributions.
- To detect and prevent spam, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Use.
- To send transactional emails such as account confirmation and password reset.
- To analyse usage patterns and improve the dictionary experience, using analytics tools that load only after you consent (see the Cookies section).
We do not sell your personal data to third parties, and we do not use it for advertising purposes.
4. Public Contributions
Any translation, definition, or comment you submit is publicly visible and associated with your username. Please do not include personal information in your contributions. Contributions may be indexed by search engines.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services that may process your data:
- Neon (serverless Postgres) : hosting of our database, where account and dictionary data is stored.
- Neon Managed Better Auth : authentication for email/password and Google Sign-In, using Resend as the email provider for authentication emails such as verification and password reset.
- Google Sign-In : optional authentication method. If you use it, Google's privacy policy applies to the data shared during sign-in.
- Amazon SES : sending transactional and notification emails, such as the welcome email and weekly contributor emails.
- Cloudflare R2 : object storage for files such as the generated sitemap and uploaded assets.
- Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity : analytics services that load only after you give consent via the cookie banner (see the Cookies section). Google's and Microsoft's privacy policies apply to the data they process.
6. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal information is removed from our systems within 30 days. Public contributions may be retained in anonymised form to preserve the integrity of the dictionary.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.

- Object to or restrict certain processing activities.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Cookies
Amazighly always uses essential cookies that are required for authentication and session management. These are necessary for the site to function and are not used for tracking.
In addition, we use optional analytics cookies for Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity. These load only after you give consent through our cookie banner. You can accept or decline each analytics category independently, and nothing loads before you choose. Your choice is stored in your browser, and you can change it at any time. Microsoft Clarity may record session replays and heatmaps of your interactions during a session, such as clicks, scrolling, and mouse movement.
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell your data.
9. Children's Privacy
Amazighly is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Amazighly after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
